4 Ways To use Coconut Oil

Both a wonder product in the kitchen and bathroom, coconut oil (Vita Coco Coconut Oil*) has become a staple in many peoples everyday lives whether it’s being used in a favourite recipe or it’s become a go to beauty product. The benefits of this stuff are endless, it really can be used for pretty much everything from hair treatments to moisturising your nails and making delicious cookies, it’s an essential in ones cupboard and beauty stash and here is why…

BEAUTY HACKS

Hair | Keeping your hair in ultra shiny, glossy and perfect condition can be hard to maintain all year around with changes in weather and location. Of course, having your hair cut regularly is a key part of ensuring your hair stays healthy but having a tub of coconut oil in your cupboard can also be pretty handy and may become your hairs best friend. There are many different ways in which you can use Coconut Oil on your hair, the most obvious one being as a treatment, simply massaging a dollop in-between your fingers and then lightly stroking through the ends of your hair when damp, this will not only act as a nourishing treatment but also protects your hair from sun damage. Another beneficial way of making use of the oil is as an intense overnight treatment, once you've applied the oil, place a towel over your pillow to stop any oil getting on your bed sheets and you are ready for some serious over night hydration! In the morning, wash your hair as normal in the shower/bath with a gentle shampoo.

Nails | To save you some money, coconut oil doubles up as a great cuticle treatment. I like to slather on and massage in some oil once a night all over my nails and cuticles, both hands and feet, to allow the oil to sink in over night and leave me waking up to relived, moisturised and perfectly looking cuticles.

Skin | At first, the thought of applying a layer of coconut oil onto my skin scared me and thought it would be far too thick and oily but after testing it out, I am a coconut oil convert. When massaged into your hands to warm the product, the oil real breaks down into a light oil that can be easily spread onto your skin, I apply this before night, all over allowing my skin to heal and hydrate in my sleep. It also works brilliantly on blemishes, if I've got any pesky spots coming up then I'll pat some of this on and it helps calm my skin and bring down the redness. With a naturally dehydrated complexion, I don't worry too much about slapping on endless oils on my face but if you are prone to an oilier complexion then I'd recommend mixing some oil with your normal moisturiser so it's not quite so intense!

COOKING & SOME RECIPES

When it comes to coconut oil and cooking, there's been a lot of hype around the area in the online world, I'm aways seeing recipes pop up and the health benefits of using consuming coconut oil so with a pot in the cupboard, I started to add coconut oil into my everyday cooking, using it instead of other oils. Despite having quite a strong taste, by adding only a small amount, the taste is least over powering meaning if you aren't the biggest coconut fan, you can still enjoy the dish! Pinterest and food blogs are oozing with coconut oil recipes (below are two delicious choices) but I also tend to just add in coconut oil whenever I feel suitable whether it's cooking scrambled egg or adding it into a Thai Curry!
