Updating Your Makeup Bag For Spring
When it comes to Spring, everyone is doing the whole 'Spring Clean' thaaang and clearing out their wardrobes or updating their clothes for slightly warmer weather (we hope) but it is also really important to have a clear out of your makeup bag and switch around some much loved winter makeup for brighter and lighter picks. We all have our favourite products to use throughout A/W and some are hard to completely forget about until Summer is over, so we allow them to creep back in... but things like dark lips, smokey eyes and dark blushers, I leave them for the cold weather and pick up peaches, corals and perky pinks in Spring for a complete new look.
One of the main things I like to change in Spring/Summer is my foundation, even though I'm not into the full coverage, heavy foundations in the winter either, I still like to mix it up. Last winter I pretty much lived in Bourjois Healthy Mix or Giorgio Amarni Luminous Silk, some of my favourite foundations but they have been put away for a few months now and I have fallen back in love with some golden oldies.
NARS Sheer Glow is the newest of the bunch and is now my holy grail. I could not live without this one, for spring it is perfect- still gives a decent coverage but is really creamy and lightweight, so isn't cakey at all and leaves a beautiful glowing complexion. Still a foundation, but a much lighter, sheerer option, we have
Bobbi Brown Moisture Rich, another one of my favourites and is perfect for 'good skin' days when I don't need much coverage at all. The liquid formula is intensely moisturising and keeps my skin juicy and hydrated. A much more affordable option and one that is still incredible, is
Bourjois 123 Perfect CC Cream. The name is very miss-leading however, as this is much more like a foundation, with a light-medium coverage. The formula is again very creamy and lightweight, blending into the skin seamlessly for overall radiance and a satin finish.
As you all probably know, I am all for embracing the dewy, radiant skin so when Spring comes, I amp up the glow even more than usual and to do this, I find using a pearly/highlighting liquid underneath foundation, mixed in or on top works really well. Soap and Glory Hocus Focus is a great budget option and I find this works beautifully underneath foundation, it really shines through and gives slight luminosity to my skin. On top of foundation this also looks beautiful- it gives a much more intense glow and really stands out. For a much more subtle glow, then the Smashbox Highlighting Wand is ideal. Instead of a pale, pearly highlight this is very gold so looks beautiful with really bronzed cheeks! This one is perfect for Summer!
Powder blush is so Autumn/Winter. Joking. I adore my NARS, Sleek and Clinique blushers in the S/S but for the true fresh makeup look, it's all about cream blusher. I find they are so much brighter and have a completely different effect. The cream formula's really awaken my skin and make everything look a lot more perky and dewy. MAC Lady Blush is an all time favourite, a pretty neutral, dark peach shade and Philosphy (not in the picture) are also great for really bright pink, subtle cream blushers. Benefit Bene Tints are also the perfect products for Spring, super lightweight and natural looking. Cha Cha Tint is a lovely mango orange which I love to wear with my Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser and a coral lip.
I've never really been into black eye liner- I find it drags down my eyes and makes them look a lot smaller, so I tend to stay clear... However, a dark blue liner I can deal with. Laura Mercier do beautiful cream eye liners, which when applied with a small brush can give a beautiful precise line just across the lash line. I've recently gotten into blue eye shadow too, so this really smudged out is a lovely wash of blue to keep things light and spring like.
My go to lipstick shade in the winter was MAC Dubonnet, my all time favourite red lipstick and every lipstick I wore, would be matte but when Spring comes, I ditch the dark mattes and say hello to the peaches and light pinks, whether it's a gloss or a shine lipstick, they are my go to. For a gloss, the my No7 BB Lips in Peach Perfection is my favourite, I reach for it nearly every time and even to chuck on in the day on top of another lipstick, it still looks beautiful! For a lipstick option, then my Anthropologie Lip Treatment is great. The hydrating formula is super moisturising so my lips are still being treated, and the sheer peach shade really adds to a makeup look and goes beautifully with every blush!
