Croatia: Korcula
Another beautiful Croatian island; Korcula. Filled with vineyards, olive groves, fishing towns and hidden coves, it was the perfect place to go and unwind, relax and switch off. We stayed in a small village called Zavalatica which was on the Southern side of the island and filled with beautiful rocky coves and private swimming spots. It's an idyllic spot of tranquility, surrounded by natural beauty, green forest, olive and grape trees and the Adriatic Ocean.
WHERE WE STAYED:
We opted to stay in the fishing village of Zavalatica after searching AirBNB for a suitable and affordable apartment in the town of Korcula and we couldn't of been happier with choosing Zavalatica. The village is a tiny old port about 30 minutes from Korcula Old Town and our AirBNB was located 200km from the sea with small steps winding down to rocks with sun-loungers on and a breathtaking view of the beautiful ocean, it was just perfect. Zavalatica itself, was idyllic; secluded and quiet, it's perfect if you're happy not to do anything but swim, sunbathe, kayak and explore.
WHAT WE DID:
We cooked in the apartment most nights as it was a great place with a lovely outdoor area where we sat and ate endless delicious pasta, gnocchi and risotto dishes listening to the ocean. We went to the incredible Konoba Mate in Pupnat, (another small village in Korcula, around 20 minutes by car from Zavalatica) which is a family run restaurant in a renovated old Croatian house where they served delicious food, local wines and traditional Croatian desert.
A 20 minute walk away from the apartment, was Zitna Bay, one of two of Zavalatica's pebble bays and it was a hidden gem. The sea was turquoise, crystal clear and amazing for snorkelling. We spent the afternoon sunbathing on the rocks, swimming around the beautiful warm sea and eating a mini picnic, before taking a leisurely walk home in the sun.
