5 Of The Best Shampoos
Finding a shampoo that works for you can be hard, especially with so many on the market today, each for a different purpose. Hydration, greasy roots, dry ends, frizz, texture, clarifying, nourishing, volume, shine, you name it, it's on a shampoo bottle somewhere. Having battled for some time with different shampoos and struggling to find one that not only makes my hair feel clean but keeps it looking ultra smooth, shiny, silky soft and full of texture, I've finally found the ones that work for me and narrowed down to my 5 favourites that I've been switching between lately.
DETOXING & CLARIFYING
The words clarifying and detoxifying certainly don't shout exciting shampoo that's going to deliver glossy, voluptuous locks but this doesn't mean they should be left out of your in shower routine. They guarantee a squeaky clean scalp and head of hair and make you feel like brand new for the week ahead; we exfoliate and give our skin plenty of love and attention so why not give our hair a good deep clean too? Clarifying shampoos can be more than just a weekly detox which is why I've chosen two to talk about today as both are very different in what they deliver and how they make the hair look and feel.
Bumble and Bumble Sunday*: Probably the most known and sought after detoxing shampoo on the market comes from Bumble and Bumble. Deep cleaning yet natural, the Sunday shampoo has been in consumers routines for years for it's ability to remove all product build up and residue from the week without stripping your hair of all moisture or natural oils. This weekly hair cleanser has been formulated with Ginseng, Rosemary and Sage to invigorate and stimulate, helping to leave your hair feeling alive and light ready to take on the week with texture sprays, volume lotions, oils and more. Not suitable for colour treated hair but if you're having a lazy hair week and need something to keep you going for a few days then no shampoo will you do you better than this. I've recently added this into my Sunday routine and it couldn't be better.
Kérastase Aura Botanica Micellar*: Another gentle cleansing shampoo that's free of parabens, silicones, sulphates and is suitable for daily or regular use and all hair types. I've been using this micellar, sulphate free shampoo from Kérastases 'Aura Btoanica' luxury coconut and argan oil range for about 2-3 months now and after every use, my hair remains incredibly soft and hydrated but still feels clean and free of any product. Kérastase have created a unique formula that uses natural origin agents instead of sulphates to ensure a rich, luxurious lather without the nasties, that helps remove all impurities and leaves hair looks glossy after each use making it perfect for keeping hair healthy and happy.
NOURISHING
Finding a shampoo that hydrates and nourishes without leaving hair drier and stripped down in the long run from sulphates and parabens, can be hard. There are so many on the market that claim to be moisturising and to leave your hair feeling more luscious than ever but beneath a lot of labels, lies a list of ingredients that are most likely going to damage your hair in the long run. This is where Kérastase have saved the day again and put a stop to dry hair and straggly ends. The Nutritive range has been specially designed to condition hair and increase nourishment and shine.
Kérastase Nutritive Bain Satin 2*: For silky soft hair with a little bit of volume and oomph then look no further. Nutritive Bain Satin 2's highly nutritive formula not only helps to gently clean hair but conditions every strand from root to tip to reveal super silky soft hair that's got a little bit more volume than before, making it perfect for those with fine hair.
TEXTURISING
Despite loving the smooth, silky hair look my favourite style and when I love my hair the most is when I've spent the day on the beach, in the sea and my hair is filled with sea salt (a smidge of sand) and has that real undone and effortless messy wave look to it. Living no where near a beach sadly means day to day I have to re-create this with a bunch of sea salt and texturising hair products. Recently, I've got my beach wave hair down to a T and it all starts with another sensational shampoo from Bumble and Bumble. Introducing Surf Wash and the best beach hair you'll ever achieve without the sea...
Bumble and Bumble Surf Wash*: Not only does the aqua bottle mimic holidays and the ocean, Surf Foam contains a unique blend of volume-enhancing minerals and softening ingredients that help give that tousled, messy look whilst keeping hair nourished. The light texture lathers up nicely in the hair, smells super fresh and once rinsed, conditioned, towel dried and left to dry naturally or roughly blow dried, my hair has a real sea breeze, beached look to it that gives me more volume on top, a looser more wavy look throughout and a bit more 'bitty'. On the plus side, it stays like this for two days meaning I can wash my hair every other day if needs be and it still looks presentable and feels clean.
SOOTHING
Itchy, irritated or dry scalps can be caused my a number of things but the most important thing whilst suffering with this is that you use a natural and gentle soothing shampoo to ensure no further irritation is caused. I personally don't suffer from a sore scalp but whenever my hair hasn't been feeling itself or it's been a warm day, this shampoo I'm about to talk about has saved the day.
Aveeno Skin Relief*: Like every other Aveeno product, this soothing shampoo has been formulated with finely-milled Colloidal Oatmeal which is not only known for it's moisturising, and soothing properties but for helping scalp issues, irritation and dryness. The velvety foam texture this shampoo has makes it feel like a luxurious treat on the scalp and it can be massaged in and rinsed straight away of left on for a few minutes as a quick treatment.
