Holiday Beauty Edit

As the Summer holidays have now begun, people are starting to go away and with my holiday fast approaching, I thought I would do a Holiday Edit where I take you through the products I rely on in the heat and the ones to avoid. The majority of my makeup bag at this time of the year is made up of glowing bases, creamy cheek products and a tonne of metallic eye shadows that transform any makeup look and add to the whole wet, glossy makeup look I go for at this time of the year but when it comes to packing for a holiday, you have to really narrow it down to the bare minimum and the essentials that can take any day time look to something suitable for the evening.

THE SPF:

The most important beauty step of all is applying an SPF. It is an absolute essential for protecting your skin from harmful rays and preventing burning and sun damage. I always opt for an SPF that acts as a moisturiser too instead of a 'sun cream for face', as I find them to be less greasy and am guaranteed hydration. Start by giving your skin a moisture boost with a spritz of a face mist, two of my favourites are from Jurlique and Nourish. Next up is actually applying the SPF and I always make sure I'm wearing SPF30 to make sure my face is fully protected and the sun rays aren't doing any nasty damage! RecommendationsKhiels Ultra Facial Moisturiser SPF30 | La Roche-Posay SPF30 Matte Fluid | Eucerin Even Brighter Pigment Reducing Day Cream SPF30

A LIGHT BRONZED BASE:

Once I've caught some sun on my face, I avoid any kind of foundation / tinted moisturiser / bb cream when on holiday as this is my chance to embrace the natural glow and let my skin breaaaaathe however something I do like to use is a liquid bronze/tan kinda thing which I mix with my moisturiser for an extra tint of colour in the evenings. I find these kind of bronzing tints add the healthy looking glow we all dream of having on holiday. Recommendations: Clarins Radiance Plus Glow Booster | Dr. Hauschka Translucent Bronzing Tint

THE BRONZERS:

A bronzer on holiday is a staple product for enhancing that tan and optimising your glow. I always pack a powder bronzer but this year I will be taking an additional cream bronzer as I find they add something that looks a lot healthier and freshers than your powder. For the days when I'm going out for breakfast or lunch in the town and having a mooch then a light dusting of bronzer on it's own is idyllic however in the evenings, a cream product blending beautifully in with a cream blush and highlight gives gorgeous holiday sun kissed skin. Recommendations: NARS Laguna Bronzer | Guerlain Terracotta Joli Teint Powder | Chanel Soleil Tan De Chanel

CREAM BLUSH:

The only blush you will find in my holiday makeup bag is either cream or liquid. I totally ditch the powder blushes on holiday as I find they slip off my face far too easily and they can ruin the whole natural, fresh and glossy look I go for so, it's a cream holiday for me. Unlike powders, creams/liquids stay on a whole lot longer and add a healthy pop of colour when applied to the apples of my cheeks. Oh, and they can double up as lip sticks which is a bonus. Recommendations: Kevyn Aucoin Creamy Blush in Tansoleil | Revlon Photo Ready Cream Blush | Liz Earle Healthy Glow Cream Blush | Becca Beach Tints

GETTING THE GLOW:

My favourite product to buy, apply and re apply is highlighter. I love getting those glossy cheek bones with a balm, the champagne highlights with a cream and something pearlescent with a liquid. Paired with a cream bronze and blush, highlighter makes all the difference when trying to achieve healthy and youthful looking skin. Recommendations: Kevyn Aucoin Candlelight & Sculpting Creamy Glow Duo | Benefit High Beam | MAC Cream Colour Base | Topshop Glow

THE LIP TREAT:

Just like skin, lips become dehydrated in the sun so keeping them moisturised and protected with a balm containing SPF is essential in the day. When it comes to the evening and I'm after something moisturising but a bit more glossy / tinted then I opt for either a tinted balm or a super sheer, hydrating pencil / stick. Recommendations: Dr. PAWPAW Original Balm & Peachy Pink | Korres Lip Butter | By Terry Baume De Rose | Clinique Baby Tint Moisturising Balm

METALLIC EYES:

Not only do I keep my base fresh and glossy, I also tie my eyes in with this trend and stick to shadows that are either smooth like butter to apply and sleek over the lid or powders that are intensely pigmented and hold metallic shine finishes. These kind of shadows are the perfect products to keep your makeup look natural but chic and they take any day look into something special for the evening. Recommendations: Chanel Eye Stylo | Laura Mercier Caviar Stick | YSL Full Metal Eye Shadow | Maybelline Colour Tattoos | NARS Dual Intensity Eye Shadows
