The Classic Collection: Mascara
For me, mascara is something that completes and finishes off a make up look, my face feels naked without it! I love the effect it brings to one's eyes, it really makes them stand out. With so many brands and mascaras on the market, with different results and brush shape, choosing the right one for you can be quite tricky. If you're looking for a new mascara then knowing what results you want to see is the easiest way to get the right one. Do you want volume, drama, length or curl? Do you prefer skinny brushes or fat bristley ones? These are all things to consider! In my
When To Splurge And When To Save post, I actually put mascaras in the save category as I find drugstore brands have some really amazing mascaras which are as good or better than some high end ones, but for this post I have a high end and a drugstore so there is an option for everyone's price bracket. Possibly one of the most talked about mascaras in the beauty world, YSL Baby Doll. I'd never read a bad review about this product so was very excited to try it out to see if it lived up to the countless positive reviews. First things first, the packaging. I would actually buy this just from seeing the packaging, the thin, sleek gold tube really catches the eye as a glamorous product and the bold red 'Baby Doll' signature on the tube seems very luxurious. The wand itself is one of my favourite wand shape, thin with short rubber bristles which catches each lash making sure they are evenly coated. As they are so thin and short, your lashes don't clump together or droop. The formula is ideal, not too wet nor too dry and is an intense black colour. The results? If you're looking for long, curled lashes this is the mascara for you but I wouldn't say it gives much volume, it's a definite lash lengthener mascara! Out of all my high end mascaras, this beats my Charlotte Tilbury and LancomΓ© mascaras. A new high end mascara favourite is also the Benefit Roller Lash, where I've done a full review here!
The Falsies Maybelline mascara is my all time favourite from the drugstore, after watching Tanya Burr use it in the majority of her videos, I started using it and it's been my favourite drugstore pick since. The wand is a totally different shape to Baby Doll, it's short and fat, with medium length bristles. I find these give my lashes so much volume and drama, they appear so much thicker and do have a false lash effect. The formula is very black, lengthening, dramatising, volumising and doesn't clump at all. I apply 1 or 2 coats of this depending on how dramatic I want to go, and I am left with long, curled, thick lashes which last all day and night without flaking or dropping. I find applying another layer to the outer lashes really opens up my eye and makes it appear larger. Out of all the drugstore mascara's I've tried including, Loreal, Max Factor, Soap and Glory and Rimmel, Maybelline have definitely won the vote on this one!
